Mr. Ray “Kingfish” Lucas, is a noted tropical fish hobbyist. speaker, judge, auctioneer, entrepreneur and manufacturers spokesperson.
Kingfish has been a tropical fish hobbyist for the past 50 years, starting when he was just 11 years old. He has been active in over 20 diverse aquarium societies throughout the US and Canada, since the late 1950’s.
He started in the the hobby breeding livebearers, expanded into aquatic plants, then South American cichlids, catfish, goldfish & koi, and is still very active in fish keeping, maintaining 10 aquariums and a 9,000 gallon pond.
For years, Ray has traveled and entered fish shows around the country, then served as a speaker on many different topics at various shows and conventions.
Ray worked for General Motors for 30 years. Now retired, he operates Kingfish Services, a company he started in 1989, promoting the products of various manufacturers at aquarium society events around the country. He just completed his 450th show in 19 years. The big question hobbyists always ask Ray is, "How did you get hooked on tropical fish?" That will be the topic of this broadcast.
Ray has bred over 45 species of livebearers, 30 different cichlids, 10 catfish and more than 65 species of plants. He is a founding member of the Aquatic Gardeners Association and was inducted into the Tropical Fish Hall of Fame in 1989, and is also a member of the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council, and the Western World Pet Association.
Ray was recently elected President of his local Chamber of Commerce.
